My Secret Sketch In The Cafe

I carry a small 4x6 sketch book and drawing supplies with me whenever possible just in case of an urgent urge to sketch.

I was in the courtyard at the mall having a cup of coffee and across the courtyard was a face I couldn't resist drawing. The man was about 65 years old and a little portly, but he had a lot of character in his face. His long silver hair came out of the black beanie and the white goatee was beautiful.

I tried to draw his face without him knowing, but I think he figured it out and he go up and left the area. I finished the drawing from memory. I spent about ten minutes on it.

I used a pencil to start and then switched to fine tipped markers. I had a brush marker that is going dry and it was not my intention to use it the way I did but the dry brush effect was a nice contrast to the sharpie markers. I do not carry an erasure with me so the pencil shows up as a medium gray.

I have never regretted having my my little sketch book with me but I often regretted not having it.

Simple Line Drawing of A Young Woman's Face

I drew this with an assortment of fine tipped markers. I had to do it two or three times before I got it right. I wanted to keep the face as simple as possible. After finishing with the markers I came back with a liner brush and some white gesso to lift out some highlights in the lips and eyes. I have a bold tipped marker that is dried out I used that to color in the dark area.

Fine Tipped Marker Drawing of a Woman

I did this while at the library, I had nothing better to do.

It was done with a sharpie fine tipped marker in a sketchbook. I did a rough sketch in pencil first and then went over it in marker.

I am happy with the cleanness of the lines and the simplicity of the picture.

Portrait in Fine Tip Marker, Woman

This is a sketch I did with a fine tip marker and a broad marker. I used sharpie (r) markers for this. I sketched it lightly in pencil and then went over it in fine tip marker at first just to get the main lines and the form established. Then I used the fine tipped sharpie (r) to practice some classic ink technique. Lastly, I did the hair and shoulders with a broad tipped marker.

Markers are a great and very dynamic medium. I feel it is good to change mediums often to get a fresh view of art.

I like Sharpie (r) markers, the price is right and you can find them everywhere and they do the job.
