Portrait of a Dog in Mixed Pencil And Charcoal

This dog was drawn in charcoal pencil, and graphite pencil. I saw this in newspaper advertisement and used the advertisement as a subject in a class for some home schooled kids I was teaching at that time. Dogs are very gratifying to draw because of their nature that mixes nobility and playfulness. The challenge of animals is to get the fur just right.

A charcoal sketch of a dog.

This took me about three hours to draw.  It is drawn in a cheep sketchbook.  The paper had a nice tooth to it but lacked permanence and already shows early signs of yellowing.  I almost always use acid free paper now for practice.
